Experience overview

Uncover the history and innovation of Cape Breton Island on a scenic shore excursion from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Visit the Fortress of Louisbourg and the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site while enjoying comfortable transportation, included admission fees, and the insight of your driver-guide. Your journey begins at the Sydney cruise port, one of the main gateways to Cape Breton Island and its dramatic coastal landscapes, historic communities, and rich cultural heritage. From the port, travel approximately 45 minutes to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, one of the largest reconstructed 18th-century French fortified towns in North America. Spend approximately one hour exploring the fortress grounds at your own pace. Walk through carefully restored buildings, meet costumed interpreters, and learn how French soldiers, merchants, and civilians lived during the 1700s. The setting brings Cape Breton's colonial history to life while offering plenty of opportunities for memorable photos. Continue across the island to Baddeck, a picturesque village along the shores of Bras d'Or Lake. Enjoy approximately one hour in the area before visiting the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. At the museum, spend about one hour discovering the remarkable life and achievements of Alexander Graham Bell. Explore exhibits highlighting his invention of the telephone as well as his groundbreaking work in aviation, hydrofoil technology, engineering, and communication. Bell spent much of his later life in Baddeck, making this an especially meaningful place to learn about his legacy. After your visit, relax during the return drive to the Sydney cruise port. Round-trip transportation, your driver-guide, and admission fees are included, making this Cape Breton shore excursion an easy and rewarding way to experience two of the island's most important historic attractions in one day.
