Experience overview

Discover the highlights of Montevideo on a intimate small group tour limited to just six guests. Explore the history, architecture, culture, and coastal beauty of the capital of Uruguay while traveling in comfort with a knowledgeable local guide. Your tour begins at the pier, where you will board a comfortable, air conditioned vehicle and set out to explore the city. Your first stop is the historic Old Town. Admire beautiful colonial buildings and learn about the Spanish military fortifications that once surrounded Montevideo. Notable landmarks include the Solis Theatre, the historic council building, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Old City Gate. Continue to Independence Square, one of the most important public spaces in Montevideo. See the statue and mausoleum of General Jose Artigas, the national hero of Uruguay, along with the Presidential offices, Estevez Palace, and the distinctive Salvo Palace. Next, visit the impressive Legislative Palace. Inaugurated in 1925, this grand building is admired for its neoclassical architecture and represents the democratic values of the country. From here, travel to the Montevideo Agricultural Market, one of the historic iron built markets in the city. Originally opened in 1913, this beautifully restored market is now a lively destination featuring fresh produce, local goods, shops, and places to eat. Continue through Montevideo and view the Constituents Obelisk, a bronze and granite monument honoring the creators of the first constitution of Uruguay. Travel through Parque Batlle, the largest public park in the city, and see La Carreta. Created by Jose Belloni in 1934, this impressive bronze monument depicts a team of oxen pulling a covered wagon. Nearby stands Estadio Centenario, the stadium built for the first FIFA World Cup in 1930, where Uruguay became the first champion in tournament history. FIFA recognized the stadium as a World Football Historical Monument in 1983. Pass through the Buceo neighborhood and view the distinctive Oceanographic Museum before continuing to Pocitos Beach. Enjoy the beautiful views of Pocitos Bay and stop for a memorable photo at the colorful Montevideo sign. Your final stop is the Port Market, also known as Mercado del Puerto. Admire its historic iron structure, built in Liverpool, and experience the lively atmosphere of one of the best known culinary and cultural areas in Montevideo. After your visit, relax on the return journey to the port while enjoying views of the Rio de la Plata and the city. This tour is ideal for guests who want to experience the most notable landmarks and local character of Montevideo in a comfortable and personal setting.
